So delighted to see the growing number of home sewers that have stepped up to help the cause by stitching over 25,000 sets of scrubs for our frontline NHS staff, according to today’s media.

Here in the West Midlands the Birmingham NHS Trust was swamped with offers of help after it put out an appeal on social media for members of the public to help sew personal protective equipment for staff.

Their tweet went out on 17th April and read:

“If you have a sewing machine and are willing and able to sew gowns for use as PPE, then we would like to hear from you. Please email to register your interest. Materials and patterns will be provided.

The first appeal went out on Facebook and was shared over 2000 times!!

The trust have said: “We’re very grateful for this response and the strong community spirit it shows. Keeping our staff safe is a top priority, it’s gratifying that people from across the same communities we work hard to keep safe and healthy day-in, day-out, are rallying round us to help achieve that.”
