And we really enjoyed it. The Great British Sewing Bee has returned to our screens on BBC1 and it was such a welcome distraction from the difficulties of our current climate.
12 new contestants are battling it out to become the series six champion and, sadly, the first was eliminated by the end of episode 1. Angillia, a retired primary school teacher had to say goodbye at the hands of judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young.
She was quoted as saying “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being in an environment with lots of people who enjoy and share my passion for sewing, It’s been really wonderful.”
The contestants’ first task was to produce a wrap skirt and there were some fantastic efforts. This was followed by a challenge to turn a man’s shirt into a different item of clothing. Then a tea dress was the first made to measure challenge, Matt’s yellow offering won ‘Garment Of The Week’.
More challenges to come over the coming weeks, such as inserting an invisible zip (and pockets) into a pair of palazzo pants, turning towels into beach ‘cover-ups’, made to measure men’s holiday shirts and MUCH MORE….
We are so pleased to see our favourite show back on the TV and cannot wait for the rest of the series!!
